God's Work

For some unknown reason, I receive emails from the American Family Association. I do not know when this happened, nor why, but it happens. And I've not yet sent their emails forever into the morass that is my spam box. Once again for completely unknown reasons.

Actually, I think I might know why, just a little. Because it's so utterly amusing to get emails like this, sent direct to me!

In case you're too lazy to click the link (and because I want to relieve my feelings), the AFA is now upset because the Rapid Capabilities Office removed from their patch-logo-thingamajig a reference to God. That was in Latin. And replaced it with Miracles. Which is basically the same thing. But I digress. Apparently, the removal of that little "Dei" on the logo will forever change the way the military is allowed to worship.

Because, obviously, one little office represents the entire military, and one little change in its inside-joke-oriented logo will counteract every Christian chaplain, Republican/Christian soldier and Christian-oriented harping from home. Obviously.

What I find even more ironic is what this little logo actually said. Translated, it stated that the RCO is "Doing God's Work With Other People's Money."

So apparently, according to the AFA, "God's work" is no longer feeding the poor and helping orphans and widows, it's now stealing from citizens and figuring out how to more effectively bomb people.

Who knew.

When was God's work to feed the poor and help widows and orphans?

James 1:27?

Religion is God's work?

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction..."

I'm not quite sure where you're going with this. -.- I mean, considering that we're told to care for the poor quite often in the Bible, it seems logical.

Besides, I'm pretty sure the work of God isn't killing people.
And then saying that Jesus told us to do it.

James 4.12?

...Has anyone ever told you that you are excessively confusing?

Not very often. "Excessively confusing" is redundant.

I wanted to know what your thoughts were concerning the questions I asked.

I thought that there was a question in:

I'm not quite sure where you're going with this. -.- I mean, considering that we're told to care for the poor quite often in the Bible, it seems logical.

Since there are so many ideas repeated quite often in the Bible that you ignore, entirely, and I don't think "religion" is synonymous with "God's work," I chose to just point to what I think "God's work" is as the first part of James 4.12 indicates.

I want to know what you think. I, also, would like to know what I think. And I find your posts confusing. Does that explain where I am going with this?

A tad, I suppose. And I'm sure there are things from the Bible that I've not yet learned. It's a pretty huge book, in case you hadn't noticed.

James 4:12 is: "There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art though that judgest another?"
So once again, I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say. God is the lawgiver; not man. There's not much in the New Testament that talks about killing people under the guise of saying we're doing "God's work"...

And once again, I'm pretty sure figuring out the easiest way to kill people isn't approved by God.

The logo is a joke about deciding who to save and who to destroy with funds provided through tax revenue. Both logos are equally illegal, by the way.

But your joke about God's work being to feed the poor and help widows and orphans bothered me more, because you say you are a Christian. This joke exacerbates confusion concerning what is God's work.

Part of our duty/work as Christians is to worship God by feeding the poor and helping the helpless. But should I assert that my duties to God are God's work?

I feel uncomfortable with that, but maybe I am wrong.

Okay. I understand what you're saying now.

True, what we do to worship God or to manifest our love for him may not be "God's Work" exactly...

But the point still stands that killing people is equally not God's work and, joke or not, it seems silly to be angry about it being removed. -.-
