And this is why I love Jon Stewart, because even if I don't agree with him all the time, he stands up against things he finds unfair...in his own unique way.

Also, he's right: Pew found that Ron Paul is mentioned less than other candidates, despite his popular support.

In the News...

Lots of fun stuff is happening, as usual!

Airstrike "Complications" (Yeah, I'd call it a complication)

So for starters, we just killed five Afghan soldiers who were *gasp* actually doing their jobs! In our defense, it was an accident. So McChrystal instated new rules that made it difficult for soldiers to call in airstrikes on unidentified personnel. God forbid we actually like, exercise discretion before we go in, guns blazing like we're in the Lone Ranger or something. Totally unacceptable.

Yet those rules are loosened and we instantly see an uptick in deaths. Um...yeah. I'm thinking McChrystal's approach was better. The article put it this way-
"Yet other [soldiers] say there have been few cases identified where it is clear troops have been harmed because they were prevented from properly defending themselves – and that the drop in civilian deaths from airstrikes and night raids has also meant fewer enraged cousins and brothers who themselves become insurgents and kill Americans to avenge the deaths."

Can we learn this principle of "blowback" people? We let our soldiers kill civilians, our soldiers die. It's that simple. (Of course, we could avoid both parts of that equation by just getting the heck out of their country, but since it seems nobody outside of a village in Afghanistan seems to think that's a good idea, I don't think it's going to happen.)

As one of the commenters said- "Has any army since Alexander the Great successfully subdued Afghanistan? If not, what makes us think we can?"

Excuses, More Excuses

That's the title of a song BTW, written by a Christian evangelist person who is now dead I believe. He was hilarious. But anyway. That is irrelevant to this section.

What this portion is about is the fact that we keep finding more and more reasons to attack Pakistan and take over their government and stay there for decades and kill their people and harass their military and their government and ruin their infrastructure and all that fun stuff we've done in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yeah.

Sure, it looks all nice on the outside- we've caught terrorists! We've charged them with crimes! We know who they are! We're going to put them in Gitmo and uh...use interrogation techniques that may or may not mentally and/or physically harm them, and find out all their secrets! Then we're going to put them in jail for a long, long time!

Mm-hmm.

"Newly unsealed charges against Adnan G. El Shukrijumah...present the government's clearest case to date that the main al-Qaeda organization remains active in trying to attack U.S. targets, alongside similar efforts by al-Qaeda affiliates."

"The court filing comes as President Obama and senior national security aides have increasingly cited recent domestic terrorism cases as justification for the war in Afghanistan, noting that country's border with uncontrolled tribal areas in Pakistan where al-Qaeda is based and from which, U.S. officials say, threats continue to emanate."

Yeah. So the next logical step is, of course, to attack Pakistan and continue our quixotic search for these evil terrorists.

Tea Party Exceptions

So now Sarah Palin is trying to get the ardent members of that Tea Party populace to not engage in their deficit-reduction fervor quite so much. Why? Well, it just wouldn't do for us to stop spending 3-11 billion every time we bought a ship. Entirely unacceptable.

...

Last time I checked, we were in the midst of a major recession. When people are going through hard times, what do they do? Well, they might just decide to scale back, not just on that new gadget or on their food budget...but usually, they might also fire that extra security guard if they have one. Y'know. To save money and all that good stuff.

See there's this amazing thing about the Declaration of Independence, that thing we celebrated just a few days ago. One of the complaints they lodged against King George was that he had a standing army. Remember that? Yeah.

Kind of amazing, that little fact, right? ^.^

So yes. Just a little foray into three things that caught my eye. There's more, of course- lots of oil-spill drama, even more economic drama. However, I'm not going to cover it here...

As a quick note- I'm going to be leaving Sunday for church camp, and will not return till the following Sunday. I'm going to enlist my mother to post comments for me again. Play nice. ;)

Tea Parties...or Not

So at our local tea party here they've started charging.

That's right.

It's $10 for an adult to go in. To a protest. That is supposed to be spontaneous, not a Republican, Obama-bashing rally.

Need I remind people that the tea parties were not started as rallies, as huge events that were against Obama and his "evil socialist policies", but rather against Bush and his "evil socialist policies?"

The Tea Parties have been coopted by the Republican Party. They were originally a protest fueled by Libertarians, Democrats, and Republicans from all walks of life who were upset about Bush's bailouts (and, for some people, also the wars and out-of-control debt). They weren't about Obama at all!

But somehow, they've been twisted to be something they're not. Now they're nothing but GOP fests. Very sad.

Hijacked Tea Parties

I attended the April 15th 'tea parties'. I also attended the July 4th tea party in my town. Even then, I couldn't help feeling that they had been hijacked- slowly, carefully, but quite effectively.

They have been hijacked by the Republican party.

Lest we all forget, the tea parties began because of Bush and his bailouts. They were not all about Bush; the issues were as varied as the people who attended. And it is not now just about Obama.

But it seems like that is what most of it has become now. Sarah Palin is going to be the keynote speaker at the 'Tea Party Convention'. That in itself shows that people are no longer getting the point of the tea parties- they are against the intrusions of both sides, not just Obama or the Democrat party.

So, this is just a short rant about it. ^.^ Excuse my lack of lucidity- it's rather late. :P

Tea Partiers Beware

This video is infuriating.

According to this lady, anyone who participated in the Tax Day Tea Parties (which I went to) is:

  • A racist
  • Confused
  • Ignorant of history
  • Hate a black man in the White House
  • Redneck
  • Right-winger
  • Ignorant, period
  • Unwilling to hear the 'truth'
  • Highly volatile
  • Brains are...not OK somehow
  • Have a neurological problem
  • Have a pathological problem
  • Are right-wingers, Conservatives, Republicans
  • Are 'white-power' activists
  • Unreasonable
  • It's ALL about racism!!
  • Are desperate
  • Hate black people
  • Hate immigrants
  • Liars
  • Are all white
  • It's corporate sponsored
  • It's all Fox News
  • All the people who went watch Fox
  • Anti-intellectual
  • Apathetic
  • Hateful
  • Fearful
  • Klan members

Let me say one thing:

THE TEA PARTY PROTESTS WERE NOT ABOUT PRESIDENT OBAMA!!

Okay, I have that out there.

The protests were about some of Obama's policies, yes. But they were more so about what is past- what Bush did, what Clinton did, heck, even what Bush Senior did!

Now with that said. I am not any of the things mentioned above! Unless, of course, I turned into a Republican and a KKK member without my knowledge. And watch Fox. And am a racist.

I do not hate President Obama. I am not adverse to a black man being in the White House. I honestly do not mind.

What I do mind is his policies. I have said it before, I will say it again- Obama's policies scare me, plain and simple.

What I hate is that the media keeps trying to spin the parties into some sort of protest against Obama. If you watch the news clips, they only show pictures of the anti-Obama posters- never the posters that are against Bush, etc.

What is up with that?

These are not protests against Obama. Yes, most of the people who go don't agree with him. But that doesn't mean that they're anti-Obama protests.

I can't believe this lady. I am not a Republican. Far from it. Yet I attended the tea parties. Do I agree with everyone there? No. Am I neurologically hampered? No. Am I a redneck? No.

So, Miss Janeane Garafalo...I really don't appreciate this. Not at all.

Our Local Tea Party

Our town participated in the tea party today. It was great! We had way more people then expected- I'd say maybe 250 to 300, which is kind of amazing, considering how small and generally apathetic our town is.

There were two local channels covering us- and both interviewed the counter protestors. Yes, that's right, we had counter protestors! (My mom happens to know them, which turned out a little awkward. As you can imagine!) I think that's just wrong- here are 250 people, trying to take a stand for what they think is right...and the news channels cover the pro-Obama, pro-'Peace- people. It's...strange.

Anyway. The only speakers we had were just random people that came up from the audience. At least, I think that's who they were. There didn't appear to be like any prearranged programme, but that could just be me and my inattentiveness to detail, hehe

So yeah, there's my story of our tea party, LOL

Tea Party Rally

Yesterday my mom, my sisters and I traveled to the Oklahoma City tea party rally. Unfortunately, we only came in during the last maybe 15 minutes of it (bringing a little baby can put you behind schedule), but it was still great to see so many people out there!

In a nutshell, the tea party is about protesting the government's extravagance with our money- specifically the stimulus package. Begun by Rick Santelli, several smaller rallies all over the country are being held- including one in DC at the White House!- are being held before a large rally in Chicago this summer.

I think they should hold it in DC, on the Capitol steps. That would really send a message. Maybe. I do think that even this is probably useless. President Obama isn't going to listen to any voice of reason, because he's trying to further his goals of socialism. He's an insane Communist, hot on the trail of bringing America, the 'Land of the Free and Home of the Brave' to her knees with globalization.

And we're letting it happen. So, even though these 'tea parties' probably won't do anything really, I still feel better participating- I feel like I'm doing something.
