Gun Bill Passed

I know you're all tired of gloom-and-doom me, so here's some good news!

The House passed a bill yesterday that will allow gun owners to carry concealed, loaded guns into national parks. It passed 279-147, with the support of the Republicans (of course), and some Democrats.

The only bad thing? It was added as some twisted sort of pork into the credit card bill.

Beef to get unwilling senators to vote 'aye'.

So, there's some good news, and a little bit of doom-gloom at the end, just to show that I'm still here. ;)

Just curious. What do you think is the benefit of allowing anyone to be armed? On a less ferocious note, where do you live in Texas? I actually spent six years of my life in Texas.

I am a Texan, so I'm probably (understandably) biased in favor of guns. Besides, guns are exciting!

No, that's not my reasoning. Firstly, let me say that: my right to carry a gun wherever I please is contained in the Constitution. Period. Second Amendment.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Apparently, the founding fathers considered guns important to a free society!

Secondly, I think crime would go down if everyone had guns. I mean, if someone broke into your house, and you had a gun...wouldn't take that thief long to decide it wasn't in his...best interests to stick around any longer than absolutely necessary.

I think we'd see things like school shootings go down as well. We wouldn't have another VT or Columbine. Why? Just think of what would have happened had all the students at those schools had guns. It wouldn't take long for someone else to pull out their gun and immobilize the shooter. Problem solved.

Thirdly (on the subject of homicides by guns)- if someone wants to kill someone, they're going to do it, whether they have a gun or not. So why not let the law-abiding citizens have guns?! As I said before, crime would go down if everyone had guns! It's gotten so difficult for law-abiding citizens to get guns, that not many of them have one...but the criminals have absolutely no problem getting one.

Now, like I said, I'm probably biased. I'm Texan, I know people who have guns, my Grandpa owns guns, and hopefully, later this year he's going to teach me to shoot (YES! XD).

And in case this looks/sounds terribly rehearsed...it is. I've had this discussion plenty of times before! LOL

Oh, forgot your question. I have a one-track mind, can ya tell?!

I live in the Panhandle area...we're currently in the midst of a weather rollercoaster. It can't decide what it wants to do....
